In a globalepidemic of this nature, it's almost impossible to avoid coming intocontact with H1N1 in spite of all precautions. Contact with H1N1 isnot so much of a problem as proliferation is. While you are still healthy and not showing any symptoms of H1N1 infection, in orderto prevent proliferation, aggravation of symptoms and development ofsecondary infections, some very simple steps, not fullyhighlighted in most official communications, can be practiced (instead of focusing on how to stock N95 or Tamiflu):

Frequent hand-washing (well highlighted in all official communications).

"Hands-off-the-face" approach. Resist all temptations to touch any part of face (unless you want to eat or bathe).

*Gargle twice a day with warm salt water (use Listerine if you don'ttrust salt). *H1N1 takes 2-3 days after initial infection in thethroat/ nasal cavity to proliferate and show characteristic symptoms. Simple gargling prevents proliferation. In a way, gargling with saltwater has the same effect on a healthy individual that Tamiflu has onan infected one. Don't underestimate this simple, inexpensive andpowerful preventative method.

Similar to 3 above, *cleanyour nostrils at least once every day with warm salt water. *Noteverybody may be good at Jala Neti or Sutra Neti (very good Yoga asanasto clean nasal cavities), but *blowing the nose hard once a day andswabbing both nostrils with cotton buds dipped in warm salt water isvery effective in bringing down viral population.*

*Boost your natural immunity with foods that are rich in Vitamin C(Amla and other citrus fruits). *If you have to supplement withVitamin C tablets, make sure that it also has Zinc to boost absorption.

*Drink as much of warm liquids (tea, coffee, etc) as you can.*Drinkingwarm liquids has the same effect as gargling, but in the reversedirection. They wash off proliferating viruses from the throat intothe stomach where they cannot survive, proliferate or do any harm.

Get as much natural sunlight as possible. Vitamin D is the most important way to ramp up your body's natural immune system. It is impossible to get enough Vitamin D through supplements or food. When sunlight is not available, the next best thing is a safe Tanning bed.

Pass this on to your entire e-list. You never know 20 whomight pay attention to it - and STAY ALIVE because of it.

New Haven Register Article from a Chiropractor

A TAN IS YOUR BODY'S NATURAL PROTECTION AGAINST SUNBURN

I have no connection to the tanning bed industry. I am a chiropractor who gives health advice to my patients and always has their health in mind. The recent “important study” was not a study at all. It was based on an International Agency for Research on Cancer meeting to review previous studies.Ultraviolet B exposure is health producing by stimulating the production of vitamin D, which is responsible for regulating thousands of genes and decreases cancer overall by 50 percent to 60 percent. So while it is true that excessive UVB exposure will increase skin cancer and will cost lives, consider how many more deaths will result from fear of tanning and the sun.Breast cancer has been associated with low serum D levels, as have colon, prostate and lung cancer. How many more people will die of these cancers because they were told to fear the sun and tanning beds? The benefits of tanning and tanning beds far outweigh the risks.Researchers, most notably Dr. William Grant, have published peer-reviewed articles that say in America increased sun exposure would result in 185,000 fewer annual cases of internal cancer and 30,000 fewer deaths from cancer. By comparison, about 7,500 die each year of skin cancer. This complex issue shouldn’t be the subject of hype and fear. The correct way to tan is to follow the directions on the bed and not go beyond a light pink color. A tan is the body’s way of protecting itself from damage.Be aware of the type of ballast in the bed. It should be electronic, which is quiet. If magnetic, it buzzes. Most newer beds use electronic ballasts. Magnetic ones produce electromagnetic forces that are possible cancer causing agents.Low serum D levels have recently been implicated in multiple sclerosis, lupus, decreased cognitive ability and a host of other conditions. Be more afraid of pale skin than an indoor tan.

Richard Carpenos

Woodbridge

http://www.nhregister.com/articles/2009/09/04/opinion/doc4aa0e1e28585e696460534.txt

Oprah Winfrey's Health Advisor Endorses Moderate Sun Exposure

AUGUST 24, 2009 -
Regular sunbathing in non-burning dosages is something Oprah Winfrey's personal health advisor now endorses - a huge addition to the growing group of physicians now willing to publicly refute Big Dermatology and Chemical Sunscreen's antiquated "Sun Scare" advice.

"Although we are taught to fear the sun, sunbathing in moderation - exposing but never burning the skin - is good for us," international women's health expert Dr. Christine Northrup wrote in a column posted on the web site www.HuffingtonPost.com this week. "This may explain why the incidence of breast cancer is higher in northern latitudes than at the equator."
Northrup joins a growing group of experts who have come out in favor of re-evaluating sun scare, including many in the British dermatology community most recently. "There's a paradigm shift going on in medicine as new research reveals a far greater role for vitamin D. Vitamin D is not just for kids - or the prevention of rickets. Optimal levels of Vitamin D (40-80 ng/ml) enhance the creation and functioning of healthy cells throughout the body. In addition to protecting the bones and boosting the immune system, studies show that Vitamin D helps prevent certain cancers, including breast, ovarian, prostate, and colorectal. Exciting new research shows that in the U.S. alone, thousands of new cases of breast cancer could be prevented every year if more women had optimal levels of vitamin D."
